Our Story

Welcome to Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue. We rescue, rehome, and neuter dogs from our village and those around us, with many finding forever homes in the U.K. This is all accomplished through the gift of donations, and on the ground support here in Bulgaria, and as well as remotely by our volunteers.

After many years working in the civil service, we (Justine and Pete) retired and moved to Northern Bulgaria, a country full of kind people but sadly also full of animals in desperate need. For more than seven years now, we’ve been doing everything we can to make a difference. We started small, simply helping the dogs in our village and the nearby towns. Many of them were hungry, injured, or frightened, and we couldn’t turn our backs. What began as a few rescues soon grew into a life-changing mission. In 2020, after five years of hard work, we proudly became a registered charity. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of people like you.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome as many dogs as we can. Every dog deserves food, safety, and love, and with your help, that’s exactly what we provide. We also focus on neutering, because it’s the only way to break the cycle of suffering for future generations.

Our Team

Santerpaws is run by a small but passionate family of volunteers. Some of us are here on the ground in Bulgaria, rescuing dogs, giving them medical care, and offering them comfort. Others work tirelessly from the UK, finding homes, arranging transport, and making sure every adoption is filled with joy.
