My name is Benny. My birthday is 3rd January 2018.

I’m a super lad once you get to know me, but the world has always felt a bit too big and a bit too loud for me. New people and new situations scare me, and for a long time I coped by hiding in corners, trying to make myself as small and invisible as possible. I was afraid of my own shadow, and life felt overwhelming.

But things have started to change.

Over the last few months, I’ve moved to a quieter area with a smaller group of dogs, and something inside me has begun to shift. I’m slowly learning that not everything is frightening. I’ve started interacting with the people at the rescue — tiny steps, gentle moments, little sparks of trust. It may not seem like much to some, but for me, it’s huge.

I’m still a long way from being ready for a home of my own, and for the foreseeable future, I’ll remain here at the rescue where I feel safe, understood, and never rushed. This is the place where I’m learning, at my own pace, that the world might not be so scary after all.

And I’m not alone.
